Our Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are constructed of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam core with 7/16” Oriented Strand Board (OSB) laminated to both sides.
This lamination is done under pressure with a commercial grade Urethane glue. The foam construction eliminates the voids common with Fiberglass insulation. For these reasons, air temperature and quality are easily controlled which allows heating and cooling cost to be drastically reduced.
SIPs are used as walls, floors and roofs. They can be used as either components of construction or a system of construction just like other engineered wood products, such as trusses or I-joists. LPS can precut openings for windows and doors in our manufacturing plant, and deliver them to your job site ready for assembly. We can also provide you with on-site installation or will help train your installation crew.
These panels are engineered for construction use and range in size according to application. A typical home would have 5” thick wall panels and 6 ½” thick roof panels. These are set in a metal track, with the panels fastened to a metal frame constructed of 4” x 4” Eleven gauge tubular steel. SIPs offer a superior alternative to stick-framing or concrete block structures because they provide for more strength and flexibility and are more energy efficient.
The inside layer of OSB provides a strong nailing surface for hanging shelves, cabinets, pictures, blinds and curtain rods without having to locate a stud in the wall. Construction time is reduced, therefore lowering labor costs, and leading to quicker occupancy and less waste since this type of home can be assembled easily and quickly. A typical 1800 sq. ft. home can be built in the plant in 4 to 5 days, and erected on site (depending on site and weather) in 4 to 5 days.
